Deputy President William Ruto is among top politicians who have declared interest in contesting for the presidential seat in the forthcoming 2022 general election.
The Deputy President is banking on a promise by President Uhuru Kenyatta that he will rally Mt Kenya region and Kenyans to endorse his bid once his (Uhuru) term comes to an end in 2022.
DP Ruto has since been crisscrossing the country selling his agenda as 2022 quickly approaches.
However, a section of Mt Kenya politicians has come out to state that the DP is not guaranteed of the region's support in 2022.
The politicians argue that Ruto must work hard to get their votes in the forthcoming polls.
Some of the politicians argue that the region might not support DP Ruto in 2022 since President Kenyatta is too young to quit active politics.
As DP Ruto fights to woe Mt Kenya voters ahead of the 2022 polls, political analysts argue that he must do it cleverly.
According to political pundit Peter Ngure, DP Ruto must keep these Mt Kenya politicians to his side to be guaranteed of votes in 2022.
1. President Uhuru Kenyatta
Political pundits argue that DP Ruto has to be in good books with President Kenyatta if he wants to get the Mt Kenya votes in 2022.
Peter Ngure, a political analyst observes that President Kenyatta holds DP Ruto’s key to the presidency.
“He (DP Ruto) has to ensure that the president is on his side ahead of 2022," said Ngure.
2. Kimani Ichung’wa
He is among Mt Kenya youthful politicians.
The Kikuyu MP is vocal and his popularity is steadily rising.
There are even claims that he could be fronted to be DP Ruto’s presidential running mate in 2022.
3. Anne Waiguru
The Kirinyaga governor’s political popularity is steadily rising across the Mt Kenya region.
There are even reports that Waiguru could be fronted to be DP Ruto’s presidential running mate in 2022.
DP Ruto and Waiguru are said to be in good political terms despite their previous political differences.
4. Susan Kihika
She is the Nakuru County senator serving her first term in office.
Kihika’s political popularity has also risen in recent months.
Political pundits argue that DP Ruto needs Kihika to win some of the Mt Kenya votes in 2022.
