The county boss has been away on medical leave. The Governor was recuperating from an eye surgery.

Meanwhile, during his leave, Awiti's lawyers petitioned against his August 8 reelection nullification at the Supreme Court last month.

This was after the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s annulment of his stay in office, after a petition by his close rival Oyugi Magwanga who appeared second in the race.

“I was not out office because of the court ruling. I underwent an eye surgery but I am now well and ready to serve the people,” the Opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Governor told the Standard on Thursday.

He further rubbished claims that he avoided his executive roles to concentrate on the court battle, adding that he similarly did not have his lawyers file the petition at the highest court for fear of a by-election.

According to the national poll body, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) data, Awiti garnered 210, 173 votes against the former Kasipul Member of Parliament’s 189, 060.

This is, however, different to Magwanga’s alleged results, with the former parliamentarian claiming that he beat the county boss after garnering 224, 836 against Awiti’s 172, 235 according to his private tally.
