Murkomen, who is also a lawyer, termed Friday's arrest of Tom Ojienda and Peter Wanyama as 'madness' and accused the government of violating the rights of the two senior advocates.

Ojienda and Wanyama were arrested over alleged financial misappropriation and fraudulent dealings at the Mumias Sugar Company.

"I am totally opposed to this madness of deliberately arresting suspects on Friday. It’s even worse that they are arresting lawyers for providing professional services. Surely Professor Ojienda is a Senior Lawyer and Judicial Service Commission (JSC) member, where is he expected to run to? Rule of Law????" Murkomen ranted on Twitter.

The remarks by the top Jubilee Party official attracted a lot of criticism on social media, with Kabogo wondering whether Murkomen has become politically broke.

"You should not be complaining in public. Take action the last I remember you were the Majority Leader in the senate. Bro!!!," he posted.

"Usiniambie ata wewe umefilisika kisiasa. (Politically broke yani)" the former county boss added.

Ojienda,  who is former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero lawyer, has accused the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji of malice and defended himself as a person of 'integrity and honour'.

"These charges sound like a big joke and reeks of malice, bad faith and flies in the face of the fundamental duty of an Advocate to receive instructions and charge fees from a client," he said.
