This comes at a time when members of the house seems divided on the issue, following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s request to the country to accept the new development.

Speaking on Radio Citizen Wednesday morning, however, Sakaja noted that Uhuru will have his way, despite a section of his own Jubilee Party having declared that they will shoot the proposal down.

With the anti-VAT team needed to martial two thirds of the house to overturn Uhuru’s proposal, resulting to 233 members, he noted that the attendance will in itself be lower than the number.

‘’Sio wabunge wote huja bungeni na wao kufikisha hao wabunge wanaohitajika kubatilisha matakwa ya Rais itakuwa vigumu (it will be very hard to reach the required number),’’ he said.

He further doubted if the house will have the courage to defy the President, especially the majority Jubilee Parliamentarians who have always sided with hi.

‘’Ni vigumu sana matakwa ya Rais kubatilishwa na bunge  (this is almost impossible),’’ he added.

Uhuru also enjoys the backing of opposition leader Raila Odinga who on Tuesday held a meeting with opposition lawmakers, apparently to talk them into supporting the increment.
