Deputy President William Ruto on Friday attended the burial of former President Daniel Moi’s longest serving security man, Leonard Yator (Chomber) in Chuiyat Village Tulwet, Uasin Gishu County.

The second in command eulogized the deceased as a diligent officer who was not only patriotic but also committed to his duties. 

He also assured the family of government's support during this hard time as thousands of mourners thronged the home of the fallen soldier to give him a befitting send-off.

“Leonard Yator was a dutiful, selfless and meticulous officer, who served his country with pride and distinction. He was forthright, firm and carried out his duties with certainty and unerring precision. Yator was a devout family man and generous spirit, much loved by all,” he said. 

Yator’s unique skills saw him labelled eagle-eyed after serving for 48 years in the security field before he chose to retire. 

Yator once Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's aid-de-camp. He tasked with dropping the current Head of State to and from school, a duty he undertook with passion. 

His commitment won him admiration from all quarters. He will be remembered for the great role he played in the security department before he chose to retire from the service.
