Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed that Central Kenya could, after all, realize its vow to back Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

Speaking on Bunge La Maisha on Radio Maisha Monday morning, the lawmaker faulted a section of area politicians who have been trying to convince the nation otherwise.

He took issue with embattled former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe's claims on December last year that Mt Kenya doesn't owe Ruto anything with regards to the 2022 issue.

According to the parliamentarian, Murathe, also a former Gatanga lawmaker, is not representing anyone in his declarations, hence his smart choice on where he makes such remarks.

"Have you ever heard him speak that way in Central Kenya? He never does that because he fears being humiliated by the people as none of them elected him and made him their spokesman," said Gachagua.

He also shot salvos at other regional politicians who have been blaming them for their loses in the 2017 polls, noting that Ruto had nothing to do with the elections.

If he indeed did it, said Gachagua, then forces opposed to his presidency should consider giving up their attempts to block him as it proves his influence among the people.

"If it is true that he managed to convince the people to vote in a different direction, then they should let him because he has demonstrated his power and likeliness to win in 2022," he added.

Murathe remains opposed to the DP's bid and has vowed to give his all in paralyzing his ambitions.
