The incident happened on Friday afternoon in Bouti village, Mwamosioma in Kisii County.

Angry villagers said the man Michael Ondigo refused to pave way for the deceased Sylvanus Mose to be buried.

"Ondigo is a land grabber who only started claiming ownership of a piece of land belonging to the deceased. He tried to oppose the burial in vain," said a local Martin Gesaka.

Mr. Gesaka said villagers got angry with him and descended on the land grabber with kicks and blows before he managed to escape into a nearby maize farm.

Area assistant chief Benjamin Mirera said the late didn't sell the land to Ondigo as he was claiming.

"There are no written records to show that Mose sold his piece of land. Ondigo wanted to grab the land but, villagers could not take any of his claims to be true," he said.

Mirera noted that Mr. Ondigo is a conman who must reform before he gets it rough with the public.
