Despite hundreds of leaders from across Nyanza pitching tent in Kisumu on Thursday, a section of Nyamira leaders were nowhere to be seen in the historical trip.

Among those present from Gusii include Governor John Nyagarama (Nyamira), James Ongwae (Kisii), Senator Sam Ongeri (Kisii) and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.

Conspicuously missing from the trip were Senator Okong'o Mogeni (Nyamira), ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire and Nyamira deputy governor Amos Nyaribo.

Despite being discharged from an Indian hospital after undergoing kidney operation three weeks ago, Mr Nyaribo, a key ally of Mr Raila Odinga, has kept a low profile in Nairobi.

"The DG will be in Nairobi for some weeks before he officially resumes duty. He is still under medication that's why he's indoors," said Robert Tai, his aide.

For Bosire, his absence has raised eyebrows but he insists that there was nothing wrong with his absence from Nyanza turf despite sources revealing that he was irked by the presence of Deputy President William Ruto.

"We don't have to attend all functions. Everything went on well as planned let's not speculate everything. We should instead focus on the outcome of the meeting," he said.

The whereabouts of Mr Mogeni, a lawyer of Mr Odinga as well, remain scanty even though he visited the region two weeks ago and openly backed the presidential trip.
