Speaking on Monday, the parliamentarian revealed that when asking the question to his constituents over the past few weeks, they rejected it.

He said that his people are only interested in changes guaranteeing them a better life and a bigger profit for their agricultural produce and not political issues.

"I have been hosting residents over the past few weeks, and the people of Nyeri want nothing to do with the proposed changes to expand the government," he said.

"But they said that if the referendum means more money in their pockets and ready market for their products then they will pass it within hours," he added.

Gachagua, brother to the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha Monday morning.

He added that the people have demonstrated that they will not allow themselves to be convinced into supporting the same as has been the case in past cases.

"They are saying that they want to read the proposal on their own and make their own decision. No one will do it for them as has been the case in previously," added this lawmaker.

The changes proposed by opposition leader Raila Odinga's block seek to among others, expand the executive arm of government and reintroduce the parliamentary governance.

Also seemingly in the camp is President Uhuru Kenyatta though his deputy William Ruto seems to be on the opposing end.
