In his tribute, Ojaamong described the former Busia North MP, later on, Amagoro, a dependable leader who worked hard to improve the living standards of his people.

"Earlier today, the Community was struck with the disastrous news regarding the death of Hon. Oduya Oprong, Former Assistant Minister and Member of Parliament for Busia North, after battling logged bullet in his head," Ojaamong said in a Facebook post.

He added: "His passion to serve had penchant for excellence was unprecedented. The death of this noble soul has left an indelible mark in our hearts; and he will forever be remembered for the tenacity and energy he exhibited during his service to the Country and community."

Oduya was among founders of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's KPU party which would be disbanded in 1969. He later rejoined KANU where he would be appointed as assistant minister.

In 1993, he was shot by unknown assailants at Mariakani in Nairobi while driving home. He was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and later on in London and New York.

Doctors only managed to get rid of one bullet from his head. Another bullet lodged in his brain was left unattended for fear that he could lose his life.

“I cannot imagine that I am still alive to date since my memory only returned after three months . . .” Oprong trailed off then his tears fell in a past in an interview with the Standard

The memories of that day two decades ago are still harrowing.
