The appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the chairman of powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee changed fortunes of Deputy President William Ruto in Gusii, observes ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire.
For the past one year, Ruto has visited the populous region in a record 18 times but has since reduced his outings with MPs now shifting allegiance to Matiang'i for development.
"Uhuru's decision to appoint Matiang'i was timely. We are now seeing reduced trips to Sugoi for handouts. Most of these MPs have been telling us that Ruto gives development.
"To my surprise, they are no longer going to Karen and Sugoi. Apparently, most of the projects launched by their master have never commenced. I warned that the DP was lying to them and am now vindicated," Bosire said.
As part of his monitoring and communicating progress of government projects role, Matiang'i is expected to host President Uhuru Kenyatta in Gusii on Wednesday.
According to Bosire, the new appointment will help residents have several projects completed in time since Matiang'i will not use them for campaigns like Ruto.
The move was evidently impactful given that a fair number of MPs are now trooping to Matiang'i's Harambee House to lobby for projects.
"I am now hopeful that the minister will help me have several stalled projects launched. I will now work with the truthful team and that's the fact," Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose said.
Most MPs from the region have been working with Ruto but a fair number has now changed tune in support of Matiang'i in recent weeks.
