Throughout the electioneering period, Matiang'i was unpopular among NASA supporters with leaders accusing him of excessive use of force by the police.

At Maxwell SDA Church during fundraiser to offset mortuary bills for Governor John Nyagarama's son, Matiang'i said the decision 'reduced burden' on his side.

"Dealing with politicians is sometimes difficult. I am supposed to adhere strictly to the rule of law but sometimes they do see that.

"Much to my surprise, he (Raila) caught me off-guard when he decided to work with the president. To some extent, his decision has really helped me a lot," he said.

During the function, Matiang'i exchanged light moments with Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, who at some point threatened to sue him in the ICC.

In a number of his political rallies, Raila openly bashed Matiang'i's attitude only the two to reconcile later following the handshake.
