This is after Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Homa Bay, on Friday, ousted their Majority Leader Richard Ogindo, despite the party's warnings.

In a special sitting chaired by Deputy Speaker Evans Marieba, the team replaced Ogindo with Kanyadoto MCA Walter Muok, the changes coming after a poll on September 6.

Accepting the challenge, Muok vowed to use his new position to unify the assembly whose 58 out of 60 members are from ODM, terming it the start of a humble leadership.

"Today we mark the era of chest thumping and bragging in this assembly leadership. I am going to use my responsibility in uniting MCAs of this assembly,” he was quoted by the Standard.

This was in contravention to a letter from party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who warned of penalties should they not consider the move.

They, however, dismissed the letter, noting that Sifuna has no authority to dictate them on who to choose in their house leadership.

This came only a day after ODM Members of Parliament, including some from the county, defied the party's directive to oppose the additional tax on petroleum.
