The house whose majority members are from the opposition party has defied a directive from the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna seeking to block any attempt to restructure the house leadership.

This comes only a week after the members dissolved all house committees and also unanimously agreed to bring to power new leaders to tame the trend of recurrent clashes over the positions.

The members on Wednesday maintained that they shall continue with their plans to elect new House Majority and Deputy Minority leaders, as well as the Chief Whip and County Assembly Service Board.

In a letter purportedly from Sifuna read to them by Acting Speaker Victor  Rodgers, the Secretary-General directed that any changes have been halted until a meeting chaired by him (Sifuna) is conducted, reports the Citizen Digital.

But in a rejoinder, the members expressed their displeasure, wondering why the Secretary-General directed it to Speaker Onyango Oloo instead of the Majority Leader and Chief Whip.

They are now accusing Sifuna of incompetence, with nominated Muhoroni sub-county MCA Caren Muga claiming that he has demonstrated his inability to unite the house previously and should, therefore, keep off.
