In most of the unlikely event, the row between National Assembly and Senate on Thursday reunited fierce rivals along the streets of Nairobi.

For the first time in public, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen was seen joyfully shaking hands with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

The two are in rival camps. While Murkomen supports Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 bid, Mr Moi on the other hand is keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Last year, Murkomen accused Mr Moi of frustrating DP William Ruto over the quest to visit retired President Daniel Moi. Since then, the two have often been involved in public spat.

“As the chairman of Kalenjin MPs, I have time and again sought an appointment so we can go and visit Mzee. Ni ngumu (It is complicated). Those opportunities are given in bits like Panadol by his son,” claimed Mr Murkomen," the Elgeyo-Marakwet senator had said.

But along the streets, the two were seen walking together, and were joined by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, another harsh critic of Moi, on their way to Milimani Law Courts.

On Twitter, Murkomen posted their photos, adding that Senate made an important decision in the history aimed at protecting Devolution in the country.

"This day will be remembered in the history of devolution and constitutionalism in this country coz Senate took necessary steps to push back the forces that seek to undermine the system of devolved government that this country chose for itself when it promulgated the CoK2010," he said.

"As a result of NA's failure to observe procedure laid down in the CoK, (1)the country has been denied the benefit of essential laws emanating from the Senate which believes in strong devolved system of Govt, which the NA has failed to consider," added Murkomen.

At the courts, Justice Weldon Korir recommended to CJ David Maraga to form a three-judge bench to solve the matter. Senator James Orengo argued that Senate is important in legislation.

"The Senate is an important institution with legislative budget making a role in the country... there's an enactment of laws which require its input while there are more others in the pipeline that deal with counties, yet they have been left out. It is our view that the court sets it out clear that bills relating to county governments must be in accordance with the law," said Mr Orengo.

Among the Kalenjin community, Dr Ruto is confident that he will dominate in 2022. Senator Moi on the other hand is also confident that he will fair well.
