Ndeti now wants the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDU) and the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) to conduct an independent audit of all hospitals and medical centres in the county.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ndeti said, "I urge officials from the Kenya Medical Board and Nursing Board to conduct investigations independently in all medical facilities within Machakos county and share their reports publicly for further action."

The former MP at the same time condemned an incident at Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River where a woman was captured on video giving birth on the floor as nurses allegedly sipped tea.

Ndeti said the incident exposed the infant and the mother to danger, adding that appropriate action must be taken on nurses and officials who neglected their work.

Ndeti asked nurses and public servants to learn to cultivate ethical standards in their profession.

The incident recorded on video and shared widely on social media at Shalom Hospital has been condemned by Kenyans and leaders.

On Monday, investigation teams made up of national and county government officials visited the troubled hospital.

The visit led to the arrest of the Hospital administrator and a nurse on duty at the time of the incident.

The team revealed abuse of procedures, substandard operations and wanting treatment of patients at the hospital.

An audit of the hospital activities begins Tuesday even as Governor Alfred Mutua called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch probe on the hospital's top officials.

Mutua said that he will not allow rogue health facilities in Machakos County.

"This is totally unacceptable and will not be allowed in Machakos," Mutua told journalists on Monday.
