Jubilee Party Secretary General Rahael Tuju is, in my opinion, one of the most popular 'political fossils' in the nation, who cannot single-handedly reverse his current state.
The former Rarieda lawmaker has rendered himself irrelevant and cannot successfully re-venture into elective politics, especially in his Luo Nyanza backyard, as a result of his repeated ‘betrayal’ of the region.
With the Luo people struggling to have a taste of the presidency since 1997 via opposition leader Raila Odinga, Tuju has always been busy scuttling these attempts.
As Raila was vying against retired President Mwai Kibaki in 2007, Tuju was on Kibaki’s side and Raila ended up succumbing to a controversial loss, which he termed rigging.
In 2013, Raila again stood up against the Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto duo and again lost to a group that enjoyed Tuju’s full support.
In 2017, Tuju was promoted to the position of Jubilee Party Secretary General slot, a post he still occupies, but which has rendered him completely politically useless to himself.
As a result of his moves and anti-Odinga campaigns, Tuju can never again win an elective position and seems to be well aware of the fact, hence his continued stay around the Uhuruto team.
But he still has an option, with this only being reconciling with the Orange Party chief, a move that was taken by former Secretary General of Uhuru’s now defunct The National Alliance (TNA) party Onyango Oloo before the concluded poll.
With Odinga’s blessings, Oloo went ahead to secure the Kisumu County Assembly Speaker's seat.
Tuju has to look for a way out and reclaim his position in elective politics as he currently depends on the Uhuruto duo’s mercy and they could easily ditch him after exploiting him dry, making him more politically miserable.
It is called political betrayal and it happens.
