The Senate Minority Leader on Thursday led a group of Rift Valley in condemning the ongoing evictions in the forest, a move aimed at preserving the water catchment zone, advising the evictees to reoccupy their homes.

However, in a tweet on Friday, Murkomen changed his stand, pledging his support for the ongoing procedure.

"We shall protect Mau Forest by all means working jointly as leaders with our people to ensure that government efforts to conserve the forest are achieved," he said.

He further disassociated himself with claims of linking the truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to the evictions, even after he accused Odinga of using his entry into government to influence the same.

He defended himself, saying he is just a concerned leader pushing for the well being of the people and the future generation.

"I spoke as a leader who cares about the people and future generations. Now tell me where you got these things about handshake and some individuals," he wondered in a separate tweet.

Murkomen's initial claims have since landed him on the receiving end from politicians from both sides of the political divide, with his Nairobi counterpart Johnson Sakaja being among the ones who have faulted the remarks.
