Charles Mugo who works at Thika Post Office speaking to Citizen TV recently said that he was born with both of his legs intact but his life took a different twist when he fell from a tree in 2002 while fetching firewood.

"I was in Form One then studying at Kapsabet Boys. It was during a holiday when I fell from a tree while fetching firewood after I stepped on a dry branch," Mugo told Citizen TV's 'Your Story' segment that aired last Sunday.

Mugo adds that after two years of being in and out various hospitals, doctors at AIC Kijabe Hospital advised that one of his legs had to be amputated.

But even before he could recover from the physical and psychological pain of losing one his legs, doctors at the same hospital would once again recommend the amputation of his remaining leg.

"I was left dumbstruck by the sad news because I had thought that I would at least be left with one leg but it wasn't going to be the case.

I was in deep physical and inner pain after losing my first limb but after a while, I had to let the other leg go too," Mugo adds.

After full recovery Mugo says, he joined Thika's Joytown Special School in 2004 beginning from Form One again where he scored a mean grade of C+ upon sitting for his KCSE exam.

He would then enrol for a certificate in Information Technology at a Thika college studying up to the diploma level.

"The other hurdle would come while I was trying to apply for a job. I was writing so many application letters sending them everywhere but nothing was forthcoming.

But in 2012, I got a call from Kenya Post inviting me for an interview. Three months later, I got another call telling me to report for work at Thika Post Office beginning October 1," the Majengo Estate resident in Thika residents recalls.

Mugo who is now a bachelor's graduate in Business Management says that though he regrets the events that led to the loss of his two legs, he believes his current situation is an inspiration to many people whom he wants to know that they can still triumph even in the most challenging circumstances.
