On Friday at Nyagancha village, senior leaders led by Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri said Gusii community would not leave anything to chances until Dr Matiang'i assumes the powerful post.

"In my view, we have numbers and when census comes, do not hesitate to come out in large numbers for registration. We want to move forward as a team.

"If we introduce Prime Minister post, this is the time to grab it. Matiang'i is a nice man and I know he's going to deliver. All he needs is just to get advise from us," he said.

Senator Okong'o Mogeni also backed the idea of Matiang'i assuming the Prime Minister post, adding that the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to elevate him was the beginning of nice things in future.

"We can even take the PM post. We have numbers and already the President has honoured the community through trust. Let's support him since anything is possible in the future."

Others who supported the idea include Youth Leader Brian Mamboleo, MPs Alfa Miruka, Shadrack Mose and Governor John Nyagarama.

The platoon of leaders were speaking on Friday in Kitutu Masaba during the burial of Andrew Nyachwaya, the father to Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.
