A girl has been reported dead in Rarieda constituency, Siaya county.
10-year-old Joan Akinyi reportedly died while playing on a swing with other children in Lweya village.
Confirming the incident, Area Assistant Chief Alfred Oyoyo said that the minor might have been strangled by the swing rope, hence the death.
"We have not exactly established what could have killed the girl but we are highly suspecting that she was accidentally strangled by the rope of the swing,” he told the Standard.
He added that the incident happened while the girl was under the care her grandmother, adding that she had left the house to play with fellow children from the neighbourhood.
"According to the grandmother, the little girl left her while she was attending to her household chores in the house," he added.
The body was later found dangling from the swing by a neighbour, who in turn alerted the grandmother.
The old lady then alerted the police who rushed to the scene.
The incident also saw the provincial administration alerted and also arrived at the place of the incident.
The body of the girl was moved to the Madiany Sub-County Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.
