Political analyst Prof Herman Manyora has cautioned Deputy President William Ruto of a possible political attack from the handshake team ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.

The handshake team consists of forces allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition boss Raila Odinga, who reached a truce in March last year, bringing to rest their initial rivalry.

Speaking on Saturday, the commentator noted that the duo has already shown interest in spoiling the DP's intentions, thanks to the latest political attacks on him and his allies.

He based this on the recent security withdrawals of leaders allied to the DP and absence of top security officers at his functions, which he termed a proof that he is a marked man.

Manyora argued that the Uhuru-Raila team is likely to use two tactics to deal with him and block him from the race, among them using their numerical powers to impeach him.

"For those arguing that he cannot be impeached, I want to tell them that they are wrong. If the handshake team decides to impeach him, they will do so because the Ruto corner cannot get the numbers to defend him," he said.

The analyst was speaking on his weekly YouTube political analysis show 'Take It or Leave It'.

He also said that the DP could be arrested and prosecuted as another method of keeping him from the presidency, something he said can be easily done even if the DP appears clean.

He noted that the DP could end up in jail even without doing any notable crime, especially in Kenya where the authorities can easily spot mistakes when "there is a need to".

"Even an arrest, charging and imprisonment of Ruto is possible. Even somebody as high as him can be charged, it is not far fetched," he added.

The DP has been largely against the handshake, claiming that Raila is using it to realise his personal political goals and is as well using it to engineer the collapse of the Jubilee Party.
