On Tuesday through an executive order, Uhuru appointed Matiang'i as Chairman of powerful National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, which will be in charge of supervising, monitoring and communicating progress of government projects.

Sources told the Standard that Ruto arrived at the coastal city after taking off from Nairobi around 8am. From Moi International Airport, he drove direct to State House for a meeting with the president.

It is not clear what the two discussed but the new role of Dr Matiang'i could have featured since it seems like a demotion of the DP who has been moving across the country to oversee government projects.

After the meeting, the two moved to a popular downtown hotel where they took lunch. They were joined by Dr Matiang'i and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, who has been silent lately.

The four then moved to Golf Club where they stayed until late night. Reports have been emerging that the president is having issues with Ruto's persistent focus on 2022.

Dr Matiang'i elevation has caused jitters within the Jubilee party with close allies of the the DP suspecting malice. The powerful sub committee will directly report to the president.
