Ruto is already engrossed in a political battle at his own doorstep with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who has equally declared his interest for the same seat.

The Baringo senator has proved to be Ruto's "headache" in the race for the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

Whereas the DP enjoys a huge following in the region, Moi's son's presence should not be ignored.

The senator can easily thwart Ruto's State House ambitions if not handled with caution.

So, what next for Ruto who is literally a heartbeat away from the seat of power? Perhaps, he will have to change his political game plan.

Should he approach the Senator’s political associates as a way to spread his political wings and regain the region's control? That dictates the tempo of Kenyan politics.

After losing his Kuresoi parliamentary seat during the 2017 election, Zakayo Cheruiyot, who served as a powerful Internal Security Minister between 1997 and 2002 under retired President Daniel Arap Moi's regime, announced that he was retiring from politics.

But can the current prevailing political circumstances in the region make him reconsider his position?

After his bitter fallout with Ruto, a move that culminated in his loss to a political novice in 2017, can the duo work together?

Nothing is impossible in politics. And if they do, the DP would have outsmarted his political nemesis, Gideon Moi, in the battle for the Rift.
