Kevin Kiptoo, a 21-year-old Moi University student is a known gambler among his peers at the Kesses-based institution.
The Economics student was at one point a talk of the campus after it emerged that he was pocketing at least Sh15,000 weekly from gambling.
Kiptoo, however, decided to quit gambling and start a cyber business after what he admitted to being as a result of several loses in gambling.
He now operates a cyber cafe at Kesses center, near Moi University.
"I used to gamble so as to earn a living, but after I made some serious loses, I decided to open a cyber business premise in Kesses center with the capital I had saved," he said.
Kiptoo however, has faced a lot of challenges in running the business because he has to balance with his studies. This has forced him to hire a close friend who operates the business.
"Since I am a student and my priority is studying, I had to hire a friend of mine, but I usually visit there on some occasions especially on a weekend when I am free," he said.
From the one-month-old business, Kiptoo says he makes on average Sh20,000 a week.
"I began the job early last month and made good money and after I increased the number of computers and secured a tender to supply foolscaps to some of my university colleagues, the amount increased rapidly and my calculation is as low as Sh17,000 and as high as Sh20,000 weekly after deducting the expenses," he said happily.
With the profits he makes, the university student uses it to pay school fees and he is now planning to purchase more computers for his current cyber cafe as well as open another one closer to the University as he seeks to improve on his income.
