A statement recorded by taxi driver Jackson Gombe at Oyugis police station implicated Migori Governor Okoth Obado in the mystery surrounding Sharon Otieno's death, reports the Standard.

Earlier, Obado, now at Gigiri police station, had denied claims that he was involved in the murder of the second year Rongo University student.

"I absolutely have nothing to do with the murder, nothing at all. Police should investigate and bring to book culprits," he said.

In his earlier statement in Kisumu, Obado said he was in Nairobi during the fateful day, a claim which contradicted results found from his communication gadgets investigations that traced him in Homa Bay.

And Mr. Gombe's statement stated that the governor was at the crime scene in Kodera forest.

"He was not privy to abductions thus had to tell the truth. In his statement, he conceded that indeed the governor was at the crime scene," said an officer.

Gombe was arrested after detectives identified the Toyota Fielder as the vehicle used to abduct the slain student and journalist Barack Oduor.

The vehicle belongs to Obado's aide, Caspal Obiero, who has since been arrested and locked in Keroka police station.

Mr. Gombe could be charged with conspiracy to commit murder as other suspects including Obado battle murder charges.
