The two, and their Cherangany counterpart Joshua Kuttuny have lately been criticizing the Deputy President William Ruto, whom they have fallen out with.

The retreat which over 100 area politicians have confirmed they will be attending is expected to be used to discuss the recently-released Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

“BBI is now a big political issue and we want to collect and discuss views so that we can have a common stand,” said Soy MP Caleb Kositany, a close ally of Ruto.

He added that even politicians with their roots in the Mt Kenya region, and those who attended President Uhuru Kenyatta's meeting in Nyeri last month are invited.

Kositany said that apart from the BBI issue, matters economic empowerment of Rift Valley residents will also be brought under discussion by the attending leaders.

"All elected MPs and senators from across the larger Rift Valley have been invited for the meeting. Those who attended last month’s meeting of Mt Kenya region in Sagana are also free to attend,” he said.

The retreat comes at a time when the political class seem divided on how to implement the proposals of the report made public last Wednesday.

On one side is Ruto and his team, including the majority of the leaders from the larger Rift Valley, who want the use of the parliament.

On the other side are allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the BBI founders, who want the document to be subjected to a referendum.
