Confirming the incident, area chief Boniface Magero said the deceased, Ann Sarange was discharged from Bosongo hospital where he had been admitted for the last 2 weeks.

"Sarange looked stressed. Her lifeless body was found by her grandson hanging from the roof of the house in her bedroom," he said.

Magero said it is not clear why Sarange decided to take her own life because she has been a peace-loving woman.

The chief alerted Mosocho police officers who picked the body and took it to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.

"Cases of suicide are on the rise so the church should intensify prayers to help those who have developed depression and stress," he said.

Elder Andrew Mogaka said sacrifices will be conducted to cleanse the family to avoid similar deaths in future.

"We will be forced to slaughter a goat to cleanse the family to prevent vice from happening again among the members of the family," said Mogaka.
