Addressing members of the press in Homa Bay County on Saturday, the former Rarieda lawmaker blamed the poor situations in Nyanza on area county bosses.

He said that the governors are yet to identify good initiatives which are of benefit to the people and are instead involved in misappropriation of public coffers.

“Many Nyanza residents are unable to take their children to school due to poverty and this shows that our county governments have not done enough to empower them financially," he was quoted by the Standard.

He added that some of the governors are busy stashing monies meant for bettering the loves of people into their own pockets for personal use.

Ha challenged them to identify and undertake good initiatives that will once and for all take off the lid of poverty troubling the people of Luo Nyanza.

“County bosses should be people motivated by desire to serve the people but not to look for wealth. Those who look for wealth end up stealing public funds, perpetuating poverty in the society," he added.

The region is under the leadership of governors Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Cornell Rasanga (Siaya), Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu) and Okoth Obado (Migori) all of whom are allied to the opposition.

The allegation comes only weeks after National Assembly Minority Leader and Suba South lawmaker John Mbadi hit out at the bosses with a similar shot.

Gumbo is seeking to succeed Rasanga after his futile bead to unseat him in the previous 2017 polls, but is likely to meet Siaya Senator James Orengo in the race.
