Ambira High School in Ugunja Sub-County, recently landed on the spotlight for the bad reasons, when a section of outgoing students reportedly insulted top government officials.

In the November incident, some boys who had just sat their final paper of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) were captured on video hurling insults apparently aimed at Cabinet Secretaries Amina Mohammed (Education) and Fred Matiang’i of Interior.

But that aside, the school which has for long been known for its good performance both in academics and co-curricular activities, especially music, was once home to a man who is currently ranked among the leading law and order enforcers in the nation.

Kenya Police Service Spokesman Charles Owino once dressed in blue, red, green and yellow school uniform within the boundaries of the institution in pursuit of the white man’s wisdom.

The other is former Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) boss Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba alias PLO Lumumba, reports the Standard.

It is here where Lumumba spent his teen days before growing to master the English language. It is also said, that its here that he developed his great love for the Congolese Lingala music.

The school whose motto has been modified from the initial 'United We Grow' to 'United In Excellence' has also molded thousands of other Kenyans, most of whom are not as popular as the two.
