The County Assembly of Nyamira is mourning the death of Mr Justine Ogechi who passed on at St Luke's Hospital in Eldoret on Thursday morning.
Ogechi, who until his death was lead researcher in the assembly, was involved in a tragic accident on Wednesday along Kisii-Nyamira road before he was rushed to Eldoret for specialised treatment.
Speaker Moffat Teya hailed Mr Ogechi as a 'dedicated servant', whose death would directly affect the assembly given his expertise knowledge on research related topics.
"It is sad that we have lost a young visionary man Mr Justine Ogechi. He is not a stranger in the county. He was involved in accident along Kisii-Nyamira road.
"We are informed that he succumbed to his injuries at St Luke's hospital in Eldoret but his body has since been moved to Hema morgue in Kisii. It's a big loss for us," he said.
Eye witnesses say a lorry lost control and hit Mr Ogechi's car head on around 3KM from Kisii Town, with the driver of the lorry vanishing.
Mr Walter Otwori, a journalist said: "Ogechi had his car knocked head-on around San Siro resort. We managed to rescue him but sadly, he passed on."
On several social media forums, hundreds of Nyamira residents paid tribute to Mr Ogechi, a common figure in youth leadership with some accusing the police in the nearby roadblock of negligence.
"We have a roadblock few meters from the scene. Police officers should be vigilant . We can't afford losing young people in such a manner," said Joshua Momanyi.
