As a political greenhorn, Odoul shocked many during the ODM nominations for the party ticket to vie for Governor. It is alleged that he defeated Oburu Odinga in the battle for that precious ticket. And with both claiming victory, they were disqualified from the race with Cornel Rasanga who finished third being handed the mandate to fly the party flag. Bu for Oduol, the battle was far from over.

He decamped from the Raila Odinga-led party and vied as an independent candidate. Though he lost to Rasanga, the margin of his loss was small and he swiftly moved to court where he successfully appealed the incumbent's win to set the stage for a by-election.

Though he lost for the second time, the successful businessman had sent home a message: that he is a no pushover in Nyanza politics.

He tried his luck again in 2017 but lost in the ODM nominations to his longtime rival, Rasanga. So what next for him?

With his popularity having dropped, will the real Oduol of 2013 defy all the odds to finally win the seat? Well, whatever happens, it will depend on the opponent he will face in 2022.
