The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kinoti George on Thursday summoned Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa to shed more light on the alleged loss of Sh21 billion in Arror and Kimwarer dams project.
Moments after appearing at the DCI headquarters, Wamalwa urged Kenyans to remain calm amid corruptions claims in his office.
He also asked all citizens of this nation to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the war against graft as he seeks to leave behind a legacy.
Wamalwa further said that he revealed his position in regard to the alleged syphoning of public funds in the dams project.
“Today I recorded a statement @DCI_Kenya on Arror/Kimwarer dams probe where I clarified that they were not under my jurisdiction. Urged Kenyans to support the ongoing investigations and the fight against corruption by our agencies,” he said.
The summon comes after Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich appeared before DCI to address the same matter.
The alleged loss of the funds in the project has widened the rift between Deputy President William Ruto and African Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga ahead of 2022.
Raila has insisted that Ruto should come clean on how he came to know the exact figure allegedly missing in the dams’ scandal.
“If we are talking about the theft in the dams project, don't come and tell us it was not Sh20 billion, it was only Sh7 billion. Who are you to tell us? How did you know?” posed Raila, during the devolution conference. In response, Ruto said that the dams are part of the Jubilee project and that is the reason he has shown much interest in the same.
"The questions are being asked is like asking a herdsman what is your interest in your herd and why do you know the number of the livestock you are keeping," Ruto retorted during the closing of the Devolution conference in Kirinyaga.
