Nairobians have praised Senator Johnson Sakaja for declining to accompany 20 MPs to Russia to watch the World Cup finals slated for Sunday.

The residents say that Sakaja’s decision not to accompany his colleagues shows he cares for the interest of Kenyans. 

On  Friday, Sakaja said that he was to go to Russia but declined to attend to issues facing Nairobians and Kenyans. 

The senator said that the issues relating to Solai dam tragedy made him not to go for the trip.

Residents who shared their views on various social media platforms on Friday lauded Sakaja describing him as a true leader. 

“Senator Sakaja is the only sober leader we have, Kudos ‘mheshimiwa’ for putting the interests of Kenyans first,” Peter Kamau said.

Kamau said that senator Sakaja’s action places him on the high table and he will be paid one time.

“Sakaja declines to go to Russia in order to, address issues surrounding Solai dam, kudos ‘mheshimiwa’, may God bless you,” Mercy Mburu said.

Mburu said that the MPs were not justified to fly to Russia when Kenyans are facing serious issues that needs answers.

“Senator Sakaja is a visionary leader who cares for the common people, thank you ‘mheshimiwa’ for standing out,” Mercy Ikoll said.

Twenty MPs who flew to Russia on Sunday have been under criticism from Kenyans.

Majority of Kenyans says that the MPs were not justified to use taxpayer’s money to fly to Russia for world cup.

On Thursday, national Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi confirmed that 20 MPs are in Russia for the world cup finals on Sunday.

Muturi said that the MPs are on benchmarking mission and will table a report once they get back next week.

It is estimated that the MPs trip cost taxpayers close to Sh 50 Million.

Nominated senator Millicent Omanga has since dismissed claims that she was funded to Russia courtesy of taxpayer’s money.

Omanga in a statement said that she paid for the trip from her own pocket after saving for more than 20 years to attend the world cup.

The one-month world cup bonanza comes to an on Sunday with a thrilling match between France and Croatia.
