There was drama on Friday at Masosa village in Nyamira County after a 32-year-old woman stormed a funeral claiming that the deceased was her husband.
Mary Nyaboke, a mother of 2 claimed that the deceased, Jackson Oroo was the father to her 2 kids.
“I am a hawker in Nyamira Town and Oroo has been paying rent and school fees for my 2 kids that we sired together. I should be recognised as his second wife since I have his 2 kids,” she claimed.
Nyaboke who was half naked said she must be given the deceased's piece of land where she will build a house for the 2 kids Oroo left behind.
Elders led by Andrew Okako intervened and asked her to allow the burial to proceed and that her grievances would be addressed later.
“We have heard you and it is true even the children resemble the deceased but, please allow us to continue with the burial so that your grievances can be addressed later,” said Okako.
Area chief, Augustine Maonda said the elders' intervention was good since the burial could have been postponed and the body be taken back to the mortuary.
“I am happy that the wise elders convinced the woman to accept the burial to proceed. It is time men should introduce their wives and children to family members in case they die we don’t witness such drama in the village,” he said.
He assured Nyaboke that despite the fact that he was not fully introduced to the family, she will not be thrown out since the deceased fathered her 2 kids.
