Melida Auma, mother to slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno had a strong message for her departed daughter during her burial in Magare Village, Homabay County on Friday.

Auma, in her final speech urged the spirits of the fallen beauty to not allow her killers peace, in what was apparently a call for her to haunt her killers who are yet to be convicted.

Auma was obviously speaking out of the obvious pain that comes with losing a child, especially in such a mysterious and brutal way, raising the question; will she indeed haunt her murderers?

Basing on the Luo culture and beliefs, the dead are only asleep and can monitor and listen to the mortals' operations and prayers, making Sharon not any different in this context.

Also, many believe they can come back as spirits to get back at perpetrators, in what is called 'Chieno' (haunting), a factor attributed to some cases of madness, diseases and even deaths.

However, brought up in a christian family as a Seventh Day Adventist, will her soul and spirit hold a grudge against her killers and fail to forgive should the narrative be real?

Isn't the issue better off left in the hands of God the Almighty who fights for the weak and defends the defenceless?

And even if Sharon was to haunt her killers, what punishment will she choose for the people who  cut-shot her life at a very tender age?

Will the spirit of her unborn baby who Auma has since named 'Baby Mashaka' also retaliate?

Only time will tell.
