The meeting which was held at Tassia saw four people injured during the scuffle.

According to Passaris, they met Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at the gate when she was fleeing and he helped cool down the charged youths who were armed with knives. Babu managed to cool the rowdy youths.

“Babu met us escaping from the meeting but insisted on us returning citing that the youth are our children. He talked to them and we went back and continued with the meeting,” Passaris revealed.

The Nairobi women representative had convened the meeting to educate youth and women on financial issues and on how to obtain the youth fund.  It was sponsored by The National Government Affirmative Action Fund.

While speaking during the meeting, Babu Owino called upon the youth to decline being used by politicians to disrupt development meetings and cause violence.  He challenged the youth to engage themselves in more productive and development-oriented activities.

“It is important for our youths to learn from the past experience. We all know that violence helps no one and it is sad that we still have some people out there who believe that giving the 100 shillings to cause fights in meetings will solve the unemployment problem in this country,” Babu said.

During the meeting, Esther Pasaris lobbied for increased allocation of funds for women projects by the national and county government.
