The claims had been made by a Nairobi-based human rights activist Boniface Mwangi.

Though a post on his official Facebook page, Mwangi had accused AAR Insurance of declining to pay for his surgery expenses despite having assured him earlier.

In a letter from AAR published by the Standard, the company said it had informed the activist that the surgery he was to undergo was not included in his insurance cover.

"We made it known to our client that the procedure he was about to undergo was not included in his cover. Waiting period for preexisting conditions is one year and not two years as stated," reads part of the letter AAR Insurance company.
