Siaya Senator James Orengo has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to seek legal redress at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the Migingo Island dispute with Uganda.

Speaking in Migori on Saturday, Orengo said that it is evident that Uhuru and Uganda President Yoweri Museveni will not reach an agreement over the island.

He lamented that police from Uganda have been harassing Kenyan citizens at the Island yet it belongs to this nation.

He also said that it is unfortunate that Uganda maintains that the Island is part of its soil when it’s ownership is clear.

“The question of the island called Migingo which is in the territory of Kenya is undisputed as part of Kenya,” said Orengo, as quoted by Standard.

The issue of Migingo remains unsolved even after Presidents Uhuru and Museveni promised to work together for the benefit of the two nations.

Uhuru went to the extent of giving Uganda a piece of land in Naivasha to construct a dry port. The move has, however, not augured well with most Kenyans.

Politicians, activists and general public want the move reversed.

In the past, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was opposed to the creation of the dry port in Naivasha. He argued that the port will kill the economy of Mombasa.
