Twenty-six years ago, presumably Sharon Otieno’s mother brought forth a bouncing, beautiful, healthy baby girl.

Like any other well meaning parents, the mother – Melida Auma and the dad – Douglas Otieno hoped and prayed for the best for their daughter.

They probably hoped that she lives long; long enough to bury them when God finally ascends them to glory. But no. They are the ones to bury their daughter after she was murdered early this month.

Before the murder of their daughter, Mr Otieno and Mrs Auma lived humble lives in their Homabay County home away from the national and media attention. But now, hardly a day passes without their daughter’s name being mentioned in the media.

Only recently, Sharon Otieno was full of life, moving out of her parents’ compound and back without much ado.

Only recently, she was a second year student at the Rongo University pursuing a course in Health records and IT with a hope that one day, she will offer acquired skills in nation building.

Raising a daughter to Sharon’s age is by no means a walk in the park for most families in this country.

Her parents must have sacrificed a lot for her well being.

It is difficult for them to accept the fact that her life and that of her unborn baby ended after a high level of cruelty witnessed in this country in recent time.

Her parents tears are starting to dry up, but their hearts continue to bleed with raw pain and emotions. It must be difficult being Sharon Otieno’s parents.
