Ali Kombo who hails from the Coast, was among the officers who responded quickly to the attack when terrorists stormed the DusitD2 hotel and opened fire on civilians killing 21 of them. The terrorists were later neutralised by special agents after evacuating more than 700 people from the hotel.

Speaking to NTV during an interview, Kombo revealed that what motivated him during the operation was "doing what I am supposed to do as a GSU officer."

"Kabla nisign hii kazi nilijua na-put maisha yangu for my country, (before I signed up for GSU job, I knew I was putting my life on the line to save the lives of other Kenyans)," he said.

The GSU officer from a small branch 'Sea' opened up that they are always at the camp readily waiting for any emergencies be it at night or day time.

“We are always stationed at the camp, so if anything happens at any time, either day or night, we have to respond to anything of emergency call. We got the orders to evacuate and save lives on arrival,” he said.

The brave officer added that what he did at the crime scene was not about making his name, but delivering his normal duties to the people of Kenya.

Kombo had earlier received praises from Kenyans for his efforts in saving lives.
