The transition was marred with allegations of tribalism after Prof Ayiro came second in an interview that many expected him to win.

The former acting VC had won the hearts of many with a lot of developments including construction of a perimeter wall and the renovation of the hostels among others.

The students have now put Prof Kosgey on a weighing scale to determine if he was indeed the perfect replacement for Prof Ayiro.

“To be honest, I don’t think Prof Kosgey can measure up to Prof Ayiro. There are no new structural developments, in fact, some of the projects that were initiated by Prof Ayiro are still pending for instance construction of the new gate,” David Simiyu, a third year student at the institution stated.

Some of the students, however, believe that the Vice Chancellor has performed well beyond the expectations of many.

“When the current Vice Chancellor took over many people alleged that he was appointed based on tribalism. He has however proved that he has come to work and he is working. I worked with him and one thing I can tell you for a fact is that he is very passionate about this university and he is even fighting the tribalism that many thought he was part of. So let’s just give him time and see where he will take Moi University in terms of academics and general development,” former Secretary General of Moi University Students Organization (MUSO) noted.

Many of the students believe that Prof Kosgey has performed well especially when it comes to structural developments.
