In June, the two leaders were reconciled by President Uhuru Kenyatta during National Prayers, an event that saw both apologise to Kenyans.

But on Friday, in what could turnout to be a political gathering, the two will meet at Nyamira for the burial of Governor John Nyagarama's son, Ndemo Nyagarama.

"This Friday, H. E Raila Odinga will be among those who will be in the burial ceremony. We also expect a host of leaders," read a statement from Nyagarama's communication team.

Although Ruto's appearance has not been made public, a source privy to arrangements says Gusii MPs are keen to have him.

"He will be coming as he seeks to solidify his Gusii region support. MPs have asked him to be part of the team," he said.

With cracks reported in Jubilee, Ruto is eyeing regions believed to have backed Raila Odinga for ages to compansate for Mt. Kenya backlash.

On Tuesday, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter said that Ruto could find it difficult to ascend to the highest office in the land if he does not reconcile with Raila.
