Maalim took to social media yesterday to attack some of the leaders associated with pastoral communities in Kenya who have held powerful positions without helping their communities.

Without mentioning their names, he pointed out at retired President Arap Moi and the late Vice President George Saitoti for being powerful Kenyans for many years but failed to help their communities.

“For 30 years I fought for the rights of marginalised Kenyans/Somalis and blamed everybody else for our predicament/problems except us. We are our own worst enemy. Pastoralist President for 24 years, a vice President for 12 years & top ministers. Look at Baringo, Kajiado & Garissa,” read his tweet.

He also faulted the current governors of pastoral counties for not utilising huge sums of money they receive from treasury.

He challenged them to follow the example set by Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

“Devolution presented a golden opportunity to our people to catch up. Pastoralist counties are getting lion’s share of allocations from treasury. Reality on the ground is that leaders in those counties are playing scorched earth policy on the resources. Not playing Kibwana at all!” he added.
