A man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to circumcise his wife by force.
The Tharaka-Nithi County man was arrested on Thursday at Muthenge village in Maara Sub-county alongside three of his relatives, Citizen TV report.
It is said that the woman’s in-laws and her husband have been pressuring her to undergo the cut which she was apparently against.
Consequently, on Thursday morning they decided to force her into the proscribed barbaric cultural practice giving her a condition of either facing the knife or leave the homestead.
The four suspects are currently detained at Chogoria Police Station. They include the woman's father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law while the nurse who was supposedly going to carry out the exercise is being hunted by the police.
Tharaka-Nithi County is one of the places in Kenya where such outlawed cultural practices are still held on high regard with reports indicating that some teenage girls still undergo the cut albeit secretly.
