A local popular blog recently reported that Kenya's founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was famed for his bad temper.

Recalling the day President Uhuru Kenyatta threatened the Judiciary with the famous statement 'we shall revisit' after the Supreme Court nullified his August 8, 2017, election victory, the blog observed Uhuru, just like his father, had a short temper.

It went further to cite reports that Mzee Kenyatta during his tenure would summon errant Cabinet Ministers to his Gatundu home, Kiambu County, and physically whip them using his trademark 'bakora'.

This was not the first time this story was being told as former Kikuyu Member of Parliament Charles Njonjo once tried to explain what really happened during Cabinet meetings chaired by Mzee Kenyatta.

In a past exclusive interview with Daily Nation, Njonjo, who served as the Attorney General for the 15 years Kenyatta ruled, termed as 'rubbish' claims Ministers were whipped.

"Mzee was never a brute. He was a civilised man. He would use his words if you annoyed him or if you didn’t do your work he would call you and tell you but he would never whip anyone," said Njonjo.

Njonjo further dismissed reports that the Cabinet would occasionally meet at Kenyatta's home in Ichaweri village.

"We went for tea or somebody had a problem and the President didn’t come to town and ended up in Gatundu," he clarified.

The former powerful AG added that the Cabinet met exactly for three hours every Thursday from 10am to 1pm.

"Mzee was a man who had finesse and conducted his meetings in an orderly manner," he added.

'Sir' Njonjo, one of the wealthiest persons in Kiambu County, turns 99 next week on January 23.
