Atwoli has been subjected to criticism by a section of Ruto's allies following his remarks on the DP's 2022 presidential bid during a fundraiser in Lamu over the weekend.

The group was irked by Atwoli's statement that Ruto's name will not be on the ballot in 2022.

Governor Mutua has however defended Atwoli, dismissing the assassination claims being made by the team.

The county boss said that Atwoli had every right to make the remarks, adding that he would call him to seek answers on what he really meant.

"Alichosema Atwoli ni sawa kabisa. Huenda anajua Ruto hajaqualify ama atapewa kiti moja kwa moja. Hata hivyo, nitampigia simu nimuulize (Atwoli had every right to say what he said. Maybe Ruto will be given the seat without having to vie or is not qualified to participate in the race. I will reach out to him to get answers)," he said.

"Labda aliona Ruto amezongwa na kashfa na hatapigania urais (maybe he thought Ruto is grappling with many scandals and won't vie for the presidency)," added the county chief.

The county boss was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Tuesday morning.

Mutua has also declared interest in the presidency come 2022.
