Speaking during an interview on JKL, the senator said that the government has been borrowing from China because the loans do not come with conditions.

He argued that the government has avoided loans from International Monetary Funds (IMF) and World Bank because they come with many conditions.

For instance, he noted that the financiers often send their teams to monitor the way the government is spending the borrowed amount. He noted that the Chinese government never gives conditions for the loans.

“It looks like we have ‘an appetite for Chinese loans’. Why are we not borrowing from IMF, World Bank? Is it because the loans have conditions?’ he said.

The senator, however, said that there is nothing wrong when the government seeks foreign loans because it is one of the ways to fund different projects.

He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to ensure that the borrowed amount doesn’t go to waste, The senator said that the loans have not been benefiting Kenyans because of massive corruption in the government.

“It is not wrong to borrow; the question is: What are we borrowing to do? Are the infrastructure projects we are borrowing for creating growth?” he asked.
