Villagers of Egentonto in Nyakoe, Bogeka ward, Kisii county were left in a rude shock after a 37-year-old man forced his wife to leave for failing to conceive.
This happened on Thursday evening.
Locals said Samuel Nyamote married Naomy Kwamboka 10 years ago and they have not been blessed with a child.
"Nyamote forced her to pack all her belongings and kicked her out of the house on grounds that he can't continue living with a barren woman," said Paul Mogesa.
Nyamote said he has taken his wife to several hospitals for treatment but, in vain.
"I have taken her to over 10 hospital but, she has not conceived. We have also tried herbal medicine but, it has not worked for us. I kicked her out of my house because she turned down my proposal to marry a second wife," Nyamote said.
Timothy Onchong'a, area assistant chief said no one could interfere with the man's decision which he termed has personal.
"We could not force the man to allow the woman to stay with him. He made a personal decision which we have to respect," he said.
