Deputy President William Ruto stands at a pole position to win 2022 presidential elections, former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale says.

For Khalwale, Ruto will be declared winner whether he wins or not, arguing that it's difficult to defeat incumbent leaders in Africa.

"I am a seasoned politician and I have been keen to know who becomes President every electioneering year. It has come to my attention that in Africa, you cannot defeat a candidate of a sitting president and that is why I have decided that I will not waste time waiting for results to be relayed by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. I choose to support Ruto in 2022," he said.

He urged voters in the western region to support Ruto, adding that Musalia Mudavadi should back the DP so that he can get Deputy President slot.

"All the citizens should re-think what I have said. William Ruto will be announced winner in 2022 even if you defeat him," he noted.

In 2013, the seasoned politician Christened Bull Fighter, backed Mr. Musalia Mudavadi, who finished third in the race that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto won.

Few years later, Khalwale decamped to Moses Wetangula's Ford Kenya, which backed Mr. Raila Odinga's bid.

And months after Raila's surprise decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Khalwale, who criticised the handshake, now says he'll back Ruto.

He lost to Governor Wycliffe Oparanya in 2017 elections and could face senator Cleophas Malala for the same post in 2022.
